A GST tax invoice is mandatory for registered suppliers selling goods or services in India. It must show taxable value, GST rate and tax split correctly.

Mandatory fields

Typical GST invoices include:

  • Supplier name, address and GSTIN
  • Buyer name and address (GSTIN for B2B)
  • Invoice number and date
  • HSN/SAC codes for goods and services
  • Taxable value, GST rate and tax amount
  • CGST + SGST (same state) or IGST (inter-state)

CGST, SGST and IGST

  • Same-state sale: tax is split equally into CGST and SGST (e.g. 18% → 9% + 9%).
  • Inter-state sale: full rate as IGST (e.g. 18% IGST).

Use our GST Calculator to verify tax amounts on individual line items.
